“Fifth graders worked diligently throughout the months of September and October learning and researching a vital explorer from the Age of Exploration era. They learned about the courageous men who went into the unknown to learn more about our world and changed the knowledge of mankind. After reading and researching, students worked in groups to promote teamwork and commitment to their individual reports on a famous explorer. They wrote their own scripts, presented a skit, designed props, and created informative poster boards/visuals to educate grades three and four about their explorer. This explorers unit encompassed common core standards in informational reading, social studies, writing, and our school’s ESLR’S values. Students presented well-written scripts filled with creativity and effort.”
