To lay the foundations of a lifelong learner, we integrate social-emotional learning alongside four essential skills tailored for our elementary-aged students:
+
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills:
Through cultivating critical thinking abilities, we also prioritize the development of social-emotional skills. Students learn to recognize and manage their emotions, developing self-awareness and self-regulation strategies. This enables them to approach challenges with resilience and adaptability, fostering a positive mindset for problem-solving.
+
Developing a Growth Mindset:
In tandem with a growth mindset, we nurture social-emotional growth. Students develop a strong sense of self-confidence and self-efficacy, as well as a growth-oriented attitude towards themselves and others. They learn to embrace mistakes as opportunities for learning and develop empathy and understanding for their peers' perspectives.
+
Communication and Collaboration Skills:
We recognize that effective communication and collaboration rely on strong social-emotional competencies. Students learn active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution skills, enabling them to engage in respectful and constructive interactions. These skills foster positive relationships, teamwork, and effective communication across diverse settings.
+
Global Citizenship:
In fostering global citizenship, social-emotional learning plays a vital role. Students develop a sense of responsibility towards their communities and the wider world. They develop empathy, respect, and cultural sensitivity, recognizing the importance of collaboration and understanding in addressing global issues.
By integrating social-emotional learning within these key skill areas, we ensure that students not only excel academically but also develop vital social-emotional competencies. This comprehensive approach equips them with the skills and mindset to navigate the challenges of the future, promoting their overall well-being, resilience, and positive contributions to society.
ELEMENTARY DAILY SCHEDULE
Our classes use the block scheduling system (90 minutes per class) to accommodate our focus in hands-on learning. By providing students more time per class, they are able to dive deeper into the subject and test out their knowledge in different ways such as incorporating brainstorming sessions, divided learning stations, design thinking projects, and peer reviewing the result of their learning.
